Abstract:

Play back stimulations of the vocal activity revealed some seasonal differencecin the altitudinal distribution and some habitat prefe~ences of the Tengmalm's Owl AegoZius funereus, Pygmy Owl GZaucidium passerinum and Tawny Owl Strix aZucq. The low altitudinal boundaries of Tengmalm's and Pygmy Owls are 900 m in autumn (Fig. l) and 1200 m in spring and summer (Fig. 2). During the reproductive period these two species live mainly in mature woods of spr~ ce and white fir, while in autumn they may be found also in Scottish Pine woods. The upper altitudinal boundary of the Tawny Owl is 1100 m, and it lives only in deciduous woodlands.
